Composer Study — 2nd term Composer is Johannes Brahms. We will read from The Young Brahms and learn about his adolescent life and growth as a musician.

Spelling/Phonics — High Frequency Word List 2. All single letter phonograms and ph, sh, ch, ck, qu, th, qu, er, ir, ar, ur, wor, wh, wr, au, ai, ea, es, ed, ou, ow, aw, ey, ay, tch, igh, augh, eigh, dge and ear. Spelling Rules 1-11, 18, 25, 26, 28, 30, and silent E rules.
Picture Study — John James Audubon is our 2nd term artist.
Poetry — Second and Third grade continues to learn poems out of the book Anthology of Children’s Poetry. They are learning how to recognize patterns in poems, rhyming words, and thinking critically about the thoughts the authors portray in their poems.
Second Grade Math — Multiplying and Dividing by 4, 5 and 10. Money - dollars and cents, naming money and making change.
Third Grade Math — Length, meters, and centimeters. Kilometers, yards, feet, inches and miles. Weight, kilograms and grams. Pounds and ounces.
Handwork — We will be making puppets for our puppet show, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and practice reading our puppet show.
History / Read Aloud — William Bradford Pilgrim Boy.
Art — We will finish our overlapping giraffe heads with pencil and colored pencils and begin a mystical dragon drawing with markers and watercolors.
Spanish — I wash my hands / Me lavo las manos (Series), “Zunzun” (Song), “Los Sapitos” (Recitation)
Music — Whole note, whole rest and rhythm patterns
Physical Conditioning — Basketball shot practice and circuit training
Nature Study — We will learn about the oak tree, skinks and salamanders in Illinois.
Recitation — God’s Covenant with Noah - Genesis 9:7-17, William Bradford - History of Plymouth Plantation (excerpts) and “A Child’s Delight” by Margaret Wise Brown
Science — We are reading about Dinosaurs in the bible and the two groups dinosaurs fit in, Ornithischian and Saurischian.
Tales and Fables — “Rapunzel” and “The Princess and the Frog” by Grimm’s Fairy Tales.
